Welcome Home Troops
Wow! Where do I start? I met Lida through my sister-in-law, who mentioned several months ago that Lida's boyfriend was in Afghanistan and would be coming home in the fall. Lida wanted to find a photographer to come and capture the moment for her and her friends. I jumped at the chance.
I firmly believe you should always be on the lookout for ways to give back. Most of the time, the best ones fall in your lap. This was one of those times. I think everyone should go, at least once, and watch the troops come home after a long absence. They have made sacrifices I can't even imagine making.
The atmosphere was emotional and festive at the same time, smiles and tears. I was afraid I would be crying along with them (I've been known to get choked up over things that have nothing to do with me). Luckily I saved it until now. When I look at the images, it reminds me of how privileged I am to witness so many human emotions through my lens... one of the best parts of being a photographer.
Welcome home troops!

These brought me to tears! I can't imagine how they make it through these deployments. I am not sure I could be as strong as they have to be. What are great opportunity you had to catch these priceless moments of those families! Salute to you, Amy!!!
ReplyDeleteIt was a pretty special and rare opportunity. I'm glad I got to be there.
ReplyDeleteWhat an amazing job capturing this moment! You know me, I'm not one to get emotional about things like this - but even I got choked up looking at the photos.
ReplyDeleteThese pictures are AMAZING! Now I have to go get a tissue! Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteAmy, Words cannot describe how precious these pictures are to all of us. I never got to thank you for capturing this emotional moment for all of us. I'm so thankful you and Lida worked this out. He was off the bus so quick that i just knew we weren't going to be in any of the pictures. When i saw the one of us hugging, i pretty much lost it. I'll cherish that picture forever. You are an exceptional photographer and from what little i got to meet and talk with you, a fantastic person. Thank you so much. God Bless you always!!
